Do you find it difficult to focus when you start working? Are your employees distracted by the flight of a fly? Do you want to increase your productivity? Then you can't miss this post in which we teach you how to improve concentration. Because if you are not able to focus on your tasks and your competition is, it is inevitable that your clients will switch to it. Your business is at stake, are you going to let it lose customers for something that has a solution? Come on, concentrate and don't miss anything.
Why is it important to improve concentration and memory at work?
Well, for something very simple and that I'm sure you
already know: because it makes you more productive. There is no more
mystery and although it may seem obvious, if you are an entrepreneur or
self-employed you need your work hours to be as effective as possible.
But don't think that this is important only to them...
If you work in an office, being able to concentrate and retain everything
important makes you stand out and, when you ask for a raise, the chances
of getting it increase, because your bosses will be delighted with you. And
if you are the leader of a functional area of your
company, you can make your employees more productive thanks to
concentration.
5 concentration exercises to solve this problem
Solving lack of concentration is not an easy
task. Luckily, there are techniques to increase mental concentration
that help you with this problem. Of course, for them to offer results you
must be constant and encourage your employees to do them. It's not worth
doing it once and expecting it to work... They are not spells.
1. Treat yourself to finishing
Do you remember when as a child they told you that
“when you finish your homework, you can start playing”? Well, this
technique is the same. Obviously, we do not mean that every time you meet
one of your objectives you play a game on your mobile (especially if you work
in an office) but you can give yourself a break or look for another reward. The
important thing is that it is motivating enough for you to focus on
finishing the task.
2. Focus on a single object
The brain is like a muscle, if you want it to be strong
you need to train it and for this, this technique is ideal. It consists of
something as simple as focusing all your attention on an object for 1 to 2
minutes (you can use a timer to measure yourself) and during that time,
only you and the object exist.
Imagine that you choose the stapler that you have on
the table. Well, you have to observe it closely, focusing on all its
details and, when you notice that you are distracted, return to it. It
seems incredible, but doing this every day is an incredible workout to
improve concentration.
3. Get an anchor
But be careful, we are not referring to you going to
the port and taking it from a ship. What we mean by anchor is that you
choose an object, or even an action, that makes you focus again. It can be
your watch, a pinch on your arm, something you have on your desk... Whatever
you want. The important thing is that your mind makes the association with
the "anchor" and so, every time you see it, you return to the task.
4. Focus on your breathing
It is almost the same as the technique of focusing on
an object, only in this case, you focus on your breathing. To do this, all
you have to do is close your eyes and breathe deeply, being aware of how the
air enters through your nose and leaves through your mouth. That's it,
it's just that. You shouldn't think about anything other than your
breathing. As you can see, it's even simpler (because you don't need
anything) and you can do it anywhere.
5. Look for interest where there is none
We are aware that if you get distracted, it is because
you do not find any motivation or interest in what you are
doing. Therefore, what better solution than to turn it into something
that is interesting? Yes, writing the report is very boring and
preparing for next week's meeting makes you desperate, but if you are
able to turn the tables and find motivation, it will be easier for you to
concentrate and even remember everything.
For example, if preparing invoices is very tedious for
you, thinking that thanks to them you are going to earn money makes you see
them in a different light, right?
Concentration techniques to make it easier for you to focus
At this point, you already know some of the best
exercises to improve your concentration and memory, which are great for
training your brain and making it stronger, but what comes next is another
story.
Now we are not counting workouts that you can do as if
your mind were going to the gym, now we are going to see techniques so
that you enter a state of concentration sooner and it is easier for you to stay
in it.
1. Take small breaks
This is what the pomodoro technique is based on, which
consists of working intensely and maximally concentrated for 25 minutes and
then resting for another 5 minutes in which you can do whatever you
want. This is done like this until they complete 4 cycles, after which
they stop for half an hour.
It may seem unproductive to make so many stops,
but if you are able to give your all while working, it means that you have
worked hard for an hour and have only rested for 15 minutes... Without
this method, can you work all that?
2. Organize your day correctly
We mean that if it takes you a while to reach your
maximum level of concentration, the ideal is that you start with the most
mechanical tasks and then move on to the ones that require all your
attention. Or if it's the other way around, then the other way
around. The important thing is that you observe yourself and thus, you
can distribute tasks in such a way that they coincide with your peak of
productivity.
3. Avoid distractions
As if it were so simple, right? It is enough for
you to receive a notification on your mobile phone about a new "like"
on Facebook or any other social network to break your concentration... Well,
unless you use your smartphone to scan documents, put it in a drawer and
put it on silent.
And you can extend that to everything that has the
same effect. Do you look at your watch a lot? Well, take it
off. Is it the conversations of colleagues? Headphones and music are
a simple solution.
4. Avoid multitasking
Although there are companies that value multitasking,
the truth is that unless you have bomb-proof concentration, the best thing
you can do is perform tasks one by one. Because if not, in the end you
won't give 100% in any of them.
Do you know other ways to improve concentration?
As you have seen, improving concentration is something
that is within everyone's reach. Also, these are just some of the techniques…
There are many more! In fact, if you know other ways to achieve
focus, we would love for you to share them with us.
